Helplessly, with hands tied and mouths agape, you see the clothes getting ever looser, the exercising going from reasonable to ridiculous. She runs for hours at a time, eats next to nothing and before you know it, there's lanugo covering her once-pretty face and extremities.
You walk into her bedroom and find glossy posters of gloriously gaunt celebrities, smiling vacantly with very hungry eyes. There were the ubiquitous "Skeleton Crew", consisting of Mary-Kate Olsen, Nicole Richie, Mischa Barton, Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff and just about any female thrust in front of the glaring, unforgiving camera, which has the audacity of adding ten pounds. Keep in mind that, with older Hollywood, it was established that it was only five pounds, so nothing is written in stone. I'm not exactly sure why five extra pounds is being accused of making celebrities larger than they are.>
Imagine living the kind of life that pretty much consists of being obsessed with looking the most like that grinning skeleton in your doctor's office without dying first. This is extremely important: No-one wants to find themselves hobnobbing in heaven with the late musician,Karen Carpenter and those unfortunate runway models who literally dropped dead on the runway. That would really put a damper on your relentless pursuit of the ever-elusive sylph as she glides through young peoples' heads and is literally worshipped by teenage girls between the ages of thirteen and twenty.
Just take a look at pretty much every female member of Xanga and you will find sullen, heavily made up girls in various stages of emaciation, doing what's come to be known as "cam whoring." They use camera phones, point them at their webcams and show glorious bones for the world to lust after and covet madly. Here's an example. It's, sadly, very, very serious business. Just the other day, I saw a young teen revelling in her protruding sternum, back ribs prominently displayed and looking emo---very emo and very "tragic". I wonder where her parents are? Do they have any idea that their young children are literally wasting away? Or are they just ignoring them and assuming that they are "just going through a stage"? It's neglect, plain and simple. They should all be ashamed of themselves.
